Researching 1968 Brings Me Hope in 2016

You’re probably wondering why I’m writing about 1968. I’m reflecting on that year because I set both The Cavanaugh House and Buried Secrets in 1968. Why? For two reasons. First, I remember 1968 and they say, “Write what you know.” I loved living in that era. Who wouldn’t, what with the Beatles and protest marches and hippies and flowers in your hair?                 The second reason is because of the lack of cell phone technology. I wanted Jesse to be on her own in dangerous situations. No texting or calling for help. In Read More

5 Reasons I Love Being an Indie Author #PoweredByIndie

I have a vivid childhood memory of my discovery of my fear of heights. I was stuck on the one-story roof of John Marshall High School and was staring at the ground far below me.  My brother, Michael, was trying to coax me down. It was dinnertime, and Mom would be angry if we were late. Mike was encouraging—I was petrified. He was demanding—I was still petrified. He was threatening… I don’t remember how I got down from the roof, but Mike was pretty strong.   When I first considered self-publishing The Cavanaugh House, I felt like I was back Read More

Buried Secrets blurb When Jesse Graham almost runs over a “body” in the road one night, she is plunged into a labyrinth of secrets, lies and murder. All Jesse wants is a simple life teaching at St. Bart’s… and a chance at Read More

The Ghostly Legend that Inspired THE CAVANAUGH HOUSE and BURIED SECRETS

Isabella Robinson haunts Belhurst Castle. Known as the “Lady in White,” the ghost of Isabella has been seen by many, was photographed by at least one (I’ve seen the photo), and inspired Belhurst’s “Legend of Isabella.”   The stories I’ve researched vary. The account given in Belurst Castle’s pamphlet, “The History of Belhurst Castle,” says that Isabella was married to William Bucke, an honest man who was both treasurer and manager of London’s Covent Garden where Isabella performed in the 1800s. David Sakmyster’s account in his book, The Belhurst Story, claims Read More

I Returned to the Scene of the Crime…and it was Magic

The most amazing thing happened to me the other day. I returned to the “scene of the crime”—the Cavanaugh House—and my characters showed up. While visiting my family in upstate New York, my husband Rich and I drove to the house that, for me, is the Cavanaugh House. There it stood, looking more forlorn than ever. The weirdest thing happened as I stood in the yard looking at it. I could feel Jesse Graham, my protagonist, there. Scenes from The Cavanaugh House floated before me as I stood and watched: Joe swinging the scythe while Jesse pushed the lawn mower; Read More
